Alternate History Post with Video
Hello all, I have decided to come in and write for you all on a Sunday, I hope you enjoy this post. I think it is very interesting. Alternate History is a medium of telling stories to get your brain to thinking about what could have happened. This one I am going to talk about today is not something talked about a whole lot, at least I have not heard about it much before I watched this video. The video is presented by someone on Youtube that I really like and watch pretty much all of their videos and I think he has done a fabulous job on this one and it is a little longer than most of his videos but the content of the video needs the longer format. The channel name is AlternateHistoryHub, check him out if you like this sort of storytelling or maybe if you would like to get into it. I will delve just a little into the subject and then add the video at the end for you to watch. Here we go!
The subject is The Election That Ruined Everything (And if it Never Happened). This deals with the American presidential of 1912 that seen three men run for the post of President of The United States of America; Woodrow Wilson, Democrat Governor of New Jersey; William Howard Taft, Republican President and Teddy Roosevelt, Former President and Leader of the Bull Moose Party. Roosevelt had hand picked Taft to be his succesor after he left office and then left to go to Africa to go on safari. Taft, in Roosevelts opinion, so screwed things up while he was away that he decided to run against him. This was the election where Roosevelt was shoot in the chest just before he was to give a speech and survived because he famously always gave long winded speeches and had his folded up in his front coat pocket and it was folded up, the bullet could not get past that to kill him. It is a very interesting story, he was not going to let something like a little bullet stop him from talking to the people that showed up to greet him. As it happens when there is normally a relevant third party running for president, that person usually splits one party and the ticket and allows the other party to win. After Roosevelt was shot he should have won by providence really but that's not how we elect presidents, interesting little fact, back in the day you could elect a Pope by Acclimation or the chanting of his name. That was seen as inspired by the Holy Spirit so it was considered a formal way of electing a Pope, the last one to be elected this way was in 1696. But anyway, back to the matter at hand. Woodrow Wilson was elected as president and we all know what happened. The video surmises what would happen if Roosevelt was elected. I agree wholeheartdly with AlternateHistoryHub that if Teddy was elected again as president then America would have entered WWI earlier and some things would have turned out for the better. WWI may have ended a little earlier, of course it still takes a while for America to mobilize soldiers and supplies to get over to Europe. As some may not know, Roosevelt was very critical of President Wilson and thought America should have gotten into the war much earlier, probably by 1915, that may have shortened the war down by a year or more.
