High Prices, More Opium Wars, Top 10 Plot Twists in History, More Stimulus

Hey there, hope your day is going great!  I tried to go to another gym today but the cost of a day pass was just too steep for me, even though I had enough money for it.  It's just really stupid to have a high cost of a day pass when your gym doesn't offer anything different than most other gyms.  Guess I didn't need to go anyway.  Wish I could find out when my Planet Fitness is going to open back up but haven't found that out yet.  Other ones have opened up already.  That's fine.  I guess I should go on and get to it!

History Day!  Opium, it has a very sordid and cruel history in China, if you know what the British did there in the 1800's and the aptly named Opium Wars then you know it was really bad.  Now come the Japanese in 1931 taking over Manchuria and they decided to get the populace hooked on opium, and the drugs made from it like morphine, to make them easier to control and help fund their war effort of taking over the Pacific.  Japan even had a general in charge of this during the war who brought on a financial guy to help oversee things and it made more money than China did as a whole.  That might make you wonder then why they lost the war, in what some may see as easy to the Americans.  I point to a prophetic tale from the Grand Admiral of the Imperial Japanese Navy, Yamamoto, who said basically that Japan would win in the early stages of the war but the Americans were a sleeping dragon that would soon overtake Imperial Japan.  There are a lot of things to talk about why they went to war with the United States and I'll write about that another time but their fate was pretty much sealed on that fateful day on December 7, 1941.  Here is an article about the opium trade; https://allthatsinteresting.com/japanese-opium-trade-in-china

It shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone that I really like plot twists, that's one of the main reasons why I like movies so much.  But I'm also a history nerd, as I'm sure most of you have guessed by now, so I really like plot twists from history.  There is a good top 10 list on Listverse I wanna talk about a little.  I'll talk about my favorites on there but first there was a little mistake, in No. 9 they refer to Alexander the Great as Roman, he wasn't Roman but Macedonian.  That's out of the way I'll get to my favorite on this list.  When Genghis Khan was in control of what would become Mongolia, he sent a trade caravan to the Khwarezmia but the governor there wasn't for that so he killed everyone.  Then Genghis sent a few more people there but their heads were shaved and sent back home.  This greatly angered Genghis and he wiped out the Khwarezmia empire pretty quickly.  So if someone sends emissaries to your door you probably shouldn't kill them or shave their heads.  Here is that list; https://listverse.com/2020/05/12/top-10-greatest-plot-twists-in-history/

It seems that the democrats got a taste of socialism in America and decided we need more so they have proposed a $3 trillion stimulus, which is much more than the $2.2 trillion one we had a month or so ago.  But we do need it.  It'll be interesting to see what happens.  The Senate doesn't act like it wants to play along with the House but I'm pretty sure they will play ball since saying no would not be a good move for reelection next time.  This whole thing is getting out of hand and we need to get ahold of it fast before we bankrupt our great country.  I don't think we can do that but I'm sure they'll try their best at it.  Here is an article about the possible next stimulus; https://www.yahoo.com/gma/house-democrats-unveil-3t-relief-bill-aid-states-193100797.html

That's it for me tonight.  I really do hope that all of you have a great night or day, take care and stay safe!
