Thanksgiving myths and a little Star War news

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  I hope everybody had a good day today.  Mine was good, went to my cousins house and had a good dinner.  I figured that what I am going to write about today is appropriate, for the day.  Since I am a history nerd I am going to write about how, why and when about Thanksgiving.  Maybe I will through in my thoughts on some of the nerd news that is going around.  Alright, let us get to it.

I know a lot of people out there in America picture Thanksgiving as starting when the "Pilgrims" arrived on the shores of Massachusetts in the early 17th century CE.  First off, one thing I really do not like is that the group of people that sailed from Britain to what was to become the United States of America, are called "Pilgrims", they were never called that by anyone of that time or by themselves but they called their followers "Saints".  Next for things I do not like about how many people see Thanksgiving is that the people that landed in what was to become the greatest country on Earth is those hats, they never had hats that ornate.  Any spare material they could use would go into the making of housing or clothes or anything for survival.  Now, it is true the story of Squanto, he did help the new arrivals and teach them many helpful things.  He could understand the settlers because he was held as a slave in Britain before.   Also, the tradition didn't start in the early 1600's because that was only one time, it was not repeated which is what you need to do if you are to have a tradition.  Another myth is that it occurred on the fourth Thursday of November, it really occurred sometime around late September or early October, as that is when the harvesting is finished.  The reason for it being in late November is because of good ole FDR, he placed it there in 1934, during the Depression, as a way to increase sales for Christmas, which it ultimately has.  So there are some of the truths about Thanksgiving.

In nerd news, it was revealed that Josh Trank had backed out of a deal with Disney to do a Star Wars spin off movie.  It has been revealed that the movie in question was the Boba Fett movie.  This understandably made a lot of people upset because, for some reason, Boba Fett is widely popular, even though he does not have that big of a part of the Star Wars canon.  Myself, I would like to see either a movie on Obi Wan or an origin telling of Yoda.  But, we don't always get what we want.  That is all the news for the day.

Thank you everyone for reading this post.  I hope everybody has a good night or day.  Take care.
